“Invisible aircraft: past, present, future”

Invisible aircraft - a long-standing dream of the military in many countries. The creation of an aircraft that is invisible to enemy air defense systems will give a great military advantage to a country whose scientists and engineers will succeed. In this regard, this work is devoted to invisible aircraft.
The purpose of the work is to determine the prospects for the creation of an invisible aircraft in the future based on an analysis of existing achievements.
To achieve this goal, the following tasks were set and implemented: ways to reduce the visibility of military vehicles were studied; the history of the creation of aircraft, in the design of which elements of visibility reduction are used, is studied; The advantages and disadvantages of STELS technologies have been clarified; The analysis of the current state of the problem is carried out and the prospects of creating an invisible aircraft of the future are considered.
The presentation in the work is based on the principle of “from the past to the future”, in connection with which the first part of the work discusses the emergence of the idea of creating an “invisible aircraft” and the first models of combat vehicles with elements of reduced visibility.
The following are considered projects of more modern aircraft created in different countries. Some of the aircraft examined are still in operation.
The next part of the work is devoted to consideration of ways to reduce the visibility of aircraft, their classification is carried out, conclusions are drawn about the possibility of their effective use in the latest aircraft.
Then, projects under development at the present time are discussed, as well as prospects for creating a new generation invisible aircraft. Here, special attention is paid to the possibility of using metamaterials with unusual optical properties in the design of aircraft.
As a result of the work, it was found that from the moment the idea of invisible aircraft was born to the present moment, scientists and engineers have come a long way in this direction. There are many promising developments successfully used in aircraft. Still, familiar materials have limited characteristics and are not able to fully solve the problems that arise at the present stage. Therefore, to obtain qualitatively new results, “breakthrough” scientific and engineering developments are necessary, one of which may be metamaterials.
Work on the invisible aircraft does not stop, and I want to believe that it is in our country that an invisible new generation aircraft will be created. And there are all the prerequisites for this.
